CoCr printed by laser powder bed fusion is a cobalt-chromium alloy built by selectively melting fine metal powder layer by layer under inert gas. Rapid solidification gives a fine cellular microstructure, often textured along the build direction, so properties can differ between horizontal and vertical builds. Residual stress is high, so parts are usually stress relieved on the build plate and supports are removed afterward. Surfaces are rough as printed, and critical faces are machined or polished. Typical uses are dental frameworks, medical components with complex geometry, and wear-resistant or high-temperature industrial parts.
