PEI printed by fused deposition modeling is polyetherimide, an amorphous high-temperature thermoplastic, extruded as filament and deposited layer by layer. It needs a hot nozzle, a heated bed and usually a heated chamber, since poor thermal control causes warping and weak layer bonding. Parts are anisotropic, weakest across the layer interfaces, with visible layer lines and small voids between deposited roads, and overhangs need supports that are removed afterward. Printed PEI is used for heat-resistant jigs, fixtures, tooling, ducting and brackets, and for functional prototypes and low-volume parts in aerospace, automotive and electronics.
Compliance & Regulations
Each row is one condition this material was measured in. Its values and curves are in the tables and charts below, labelled with the condition; the ranges here span that row's own cited values and are never averaged across rows.
