Ti-6Al-4V printed by laser powder bed fusion and annealed at 1050 °C is the alpha-beta titanium alloy in a heat-treated state well above ordinary stress relief. As built, it has a fine martensitic alpha-prime structure, columnar prior-beta grains, residual stress and a rough surface that needs supports. Annealing relieves the stress and converts the martensite to a coarser alpha-plus-beta structure, trading some strength for ductility, but it does not close internal pores. Parts serve in aerospace brackets, lightweight lattice structures and medical components.
