Ti-6Al-4V (L-PBF, 3D Systems LaserForm Ti Gr5 (A), stress-relieved)

3D Systems LaserForm Ti Gr5 (A) is that maker's grade of Ti-6Al-4V for laser powder bed fusion, here in the stress-relieved condition. As built, it forms columnar prior-beta grains along the build direction filled with fine acicular martensite, with high residual stress and limited ductility. Stress relief lowers residual stress and partly decomposes the martensite, reducing distortion when parts are cut from the plate, though some anisotropy between build directions remains. Overhangs need supports, the rough surface is usually machined, and fatigue-critical parts are often hot isostatically pressed. Uses include lightweight aerospace brackets, lattice structures and complex titanium parts.
