Polycarbonate printed by fused deposition modeling is an amorphous engineering thermoplastic built from extruded filament, layer by layer. It needs high nozzle and bed temperatures and usually a heated, enclosed chamber, because the material shrinks on cooling and tends to warp, lift at corners and split between layers. Parts are anisotropic, with weaker bonds between layers than along the strands, and they show visible layer lines, small voids between strands and residual stress; overhangs need supports. The filament absorbs moisture and should be dried before printing. Printed PC is used for tough functional prototypes, jigs and fixtures, housings, brackets and durable end-use parts.
Compliance & Regulations
Each row is one condition this material was measured in. Its values and curves are in the tables and charts below, labelled with the condition; the ranges here span that row's own cited values and are never averaged across rows.
