Desktop Metal Nickel Alloy IN718 (Shop System) in the HIP condition is Inconel 718 printed by metal binder jetting (BJT), sintered and then hot isostatically pressed. Green parts are debound and sintered with substantial shrinkage, giving an equiaxed grain structure without the melt-track texture or residual stress of laser fusion. HIP closes the internal porosity left after sintering, improving ductility and fatigue resistance, though surface-connected pores are not closed. An age-hardening treatment usually follows, and critical surfaces are machined. It is used for complex nickel alloy parts made in batches for high-temperature or corrosive service, such as impellers, nozzles and turbine hardware. Every value on this page is read from Desktop Metal's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
