AISI 301 is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel (17-18% Cr, 6-8% Ni) widely used in aerospace fasteners, springs, and high-strength sheet applications requiring excellent corrosion resistance and work-hardening capability. The 1/2 Hard temper condition provides intermediate strength through controlled cold-working, balancing formability with yield strength (0.2% offset) suitable for applications requiring both processing flexibility and structural performance at cryogenic through moderate elevated temperatures.
