9Ni-4Co-0.20C is a high-strength, low-alloy steel designed for cryogenic applications, combining nickel and cobalt additions to maintain toughness at extremely low temperatures while the moderate carbon content provides strength. The Q&T (quenched and tempered) condition delivers yield strengths typically 1,380–1,550 MPa with excellent fracture toughness and impact resistance down to liquid helium temperatures, making it suitable for aerospace propellant tankage and cryogenic pressure vessels.
