316L Stainless Steel (BJT)

316L stainless steel printed by metal binder jetting is the low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic steel formed by depositing liquid binder onto a powder bed, with no melting during the build. The green part is fragile and porous, so it is depowdered, debound and sintered, and sintering provides its final density. Parts shrink considerably in sintering, so geometry is compensated and slender features may need setters to limit distortion. Residual porosity and surface roughness are typically higher than in wrought material, but fusion-type residual stress is avoided. It is used for corrosion-resistant fittings, housings and fluid-handling parts with complex shapes.
