EOS StainlessSteel 17-4PH in the aged condition is a precipitation-hardening martensitic stainless steel printed by laser powder bed fusion and then aged, usually after a solution anneal. As printed, rapid solidification leaves a fine cellular structure that can retain some austenite, along with residual stress, build-direction anisotropy and rough support-side surfaces. Ageing precipitates copper-rich particles in the martensite, raising strength and hardness. Parts still need support removal and machining or blasting of functional faces. Printed parts serve as tooling inserts, brackets, and pump and valve components that need strength with moderate corrosion resistance. Every value on this page is read from EOS's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
