3D Systems LaserForm 17-4PH (A) is that maker's grade of 17-4PH precipitation-hardening stainless steel for laser powder bed fusion. As built, the rapidly solidified steel has a fine cellular structure, may retain considerable austenite and carries residual stress, so parts are usually stress relieved before removal from the plate and supports. Solution treatment and aging then produce a martensitic structure and develop its precipitation-hardened strength, and as-printed surfaces are typically machined or blasted. It is used for tooling inserts with conformal cooling, pump and valve parts, and brackets that need strength with moderate corrosion resistance. Every value on this page is read from 3D Systems' own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
