BASF Forward AM Ultrafuse 17-4 PH, sintered, is 17-4PH stainless steel made by Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) of a filament of steel powder in a polymer binder, followed by debinding and sintering. The printed green part is catalytically debound and then sintered in a furnace, where it shrinks substantially, so it is printed oversize with allowance for slightly different shrinkage between build directions. The sintered steel retains some residual porosity and a layered surface finish, and parts are often precipitation hardened and machined on critical features. Printed parts are used for tooling, jigs and fixtures, brackets and functional prototypes. Every value on this page is read from BASF Forward AM's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
