YMgZn₂ is an intermetallic ceramic compound composed of yttrium, magnesium, and zinc, belonging to the class of lightweight structural ceramics and potential functional materials. This material is primarily of research and development interest rather than established industrial production, with potential applications in high-temperature structural applications, thermal management systems, and advanced aerospace or automotive components where the combination of low density and ceramic properties could offer weight savings. The yttrium-magnesium-zinc system is notable for exploring alternatives to conventional ceramics in applications requiring thermal stability and reduced inertial loading.
