Thorium uranyl oxide (ThUO₄) is a ceramic compound belonging to the actinide oxide family, relevant primarily to nuclear materials science and specialized fuel applications. This material is primarily of research and development interest in nuclear fuel development, particularly for advanced reactor concepts and thorium-based fuel cycles that offer potential advantages in proliferation resistance and waste management compared to conventional uranium fuels. ThUO₄ represents an experimental composition within the thorium-uranium oxide system and is not widely deployed in commercial applications, making it of particular interest to nuclear engineers and materials scientists evaluating next-generation fuel chemistries.
