ScOs (scandium osmium oxide) is a complex ceramic compound combining rare earth and refractory metal oxides, representing a specialized material typically encountered in research and advanced materials development rather than high-volume industrial production. This material belongs to the family of multicomponent ceramic oxides valued for their thermal stability and potential structural applications at elevated temperatures. ScOs is of particular interest in materials science research exploring novel refractory ceramics, where the combination of scandium's light-metal characteristics with osmium's extreme density and refractory properties offers potential for niche high-temperature or density-critical applications.
