ScAlCO is a scandium-aluminum-based ceramic compound, likely a complex oxide or composite phase developed for high-performance structural applications. This material represents research-phase ceramic engineering, positioned in the family of rare-earth strengthened oxides that combine scandium's refractory properties with aluminum's lightweight characteristics. While not yet a commodity material, ScAlCO is notable for potential use in demanding thermal, mechanical, or chemical environments where conventional alumina or stabilized zirconia reach performance limits—particularly in applications requiring scandium's ability to enhance phase stability and creep resistance at elevated temperatures.
