RbMg is an intermetallic compound combining rubidium and magnesium, classified as a ceramic due to its ionic-metallic bonding character and brittle behavior. This material is primarily of research and academic interest rather than established in high-volume industrial production; it belongs to the family of alkali-metal magnesium compounds being investigated for potential applications in lightweight structural materials and energy storage systems. Its viability depends on addressing typical challenges of such compounds—namely brittleness, environmental stability, and processing scalability—though the low density characteristic of this material family makes it potentially attractive for aerospace and portable device applications if manufacturing barriers can be overcome.
