Pr₂HgIr is an intermetallic ceramic compound combining praseodymium, mercury, and iridium—a rare ternary phase that belongs to the broader family of high-density intermetallic ceramics. This is primarily a research material studied for its unique crystal structure and physical properties rather than a widespread commercial ceramic. Interest in this compound centers on its potential for applications requiring high density, high elastic modulus, and thermal/chemical stability, making it relevant to exploratory work in aerospace and extreme-environment materials, though practical adoption remains limited due to mercury volatility, cost, and processing complexity.
