OsHfOFN is an experimental refractory ceramic compound containing osmium, hafnium, oxygen, and nitrogen—a high-entropy or complex oxycarbide/oxynitride material designed for extreme-temperature applications. This research-phase material belongs to the family of advanced refractory ceramics and represents efforts to develop ultra-high-temperature materials that combine the thermal stability of hafnium-based compounds with the hardness and oxidation resistance contributions of osmium and nitrogen doping. While not yet in widespread industrial use, such materials are being investigated for next-generation hypersonic vehicles, advanced rocket engines, and high-temperature structural applications where conventional superalloys and ceramics reach their limits.
