NdIr5 is an intermetallic ceramic compound combining neodymium and iridium, belonging to the rare-earth intermetallic family. This material is primarily of research and specialized industrial interest, valued for applications requiring exceptional hardness and thermal stability at elevated temperatures, particularly in aerospace and high-performance coatings where conventional ceramics reach their limits. Its density and stiffness characteristics make it suitable for wear-resistant and refractory applications, though its use remains limited to niche engineering sectors due to raw material cost and processing complexity.
