MgZnO₂N is an experimental ceramic compound combining magnesium, zinc, oxygen, and nitrogen—a member of the oxynitride family of materials. Research into such quaternary oxynitrides is driven by the potential to engineer novel electronic, optical, and mechanical properties by exploiting the distinct bonding characteristics of both oxygen and nitrogen anions. While not yet established in commercial production, materials in this composition space are investigated for semiconductor applications, wide-bandgap devices, and structural ceramics where the oxynitride chemistry offers tuning of properties unavailable in conventional oxides or nitrides alone.
