MgSc2S4 is a magnesium scandium sulfide ceramic compound that belongs to the thiospinel family of materials. This is a research-stage ceramic primarily investigated for its potential in optoelectronic and photonic applications, where its wide bandgap and crystal structure make it a candidate for UV-transparent windows, scintillator materials, or semiconductor device components. While not yet in widespread industrial production, materials in this compound family are explored as alternatives to conventional oxides when sulfide-based chemistries offer advantages in refractive index, transparency range, or electro-optic properties.
