EOS NickelAlloy IN718 in the as-built condition is Inconel 718 made by laser powder bed fusion from this maker's powder, before any heat treatment. Rapid solidification leaves a fine cellular structure with columnar grains along the build direction and niobium segregation between cells, without the gamma double prime precipitation that age-hardens the alloy. Parts carry high residual stress, differ between build directions, need supports and have rough surfaces, so they are usually stress relieved on the plate, then solution treated and aged, often with hot isostatic pressing. The as-built state is mainly a starting point for turbine and rocket engine parts, brackets and heat exchangers. Every value on this page is read from EOS's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
