CoCr (L-PBF, EOS CobaltChrome MP1, as-built)

EOS CobaltChrome MP1 is a cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy powder grade printed by laser powder bed fusion, here in the as-built state without heat treatment. Rapid melt-pool solidification gives a very fine cellular microstructure, largely metastable face-centred cubic, with high strength, limited ductility and some anisotropy between build directions. Parts carry residual stress, need supports on overhangs and have a rough surface, so they are usually stress relieved before removal from the plate and finished by blasting, machining or polishing. Typical uses are dental crown and bridge frameworks, medical device components and wear- or heat-loaded engine parts.
