Meltio Stainless Steel 316LSi is a 316L stainless steel welding wire with raised silicon, deposited by laser wire-feed directed energy deposition to build austenitic stainless parts to near-net shape. The silicon addition improves melt-pool fluidity and wetting, which helps successive beads fuse cleanly. As deposited, the material is dense, with coarse columnar grains that grow across layers and give some anisotropy between build directions. Parts are built onto a substrate plate, so they carry residual stress and a stepped, wavy surface, and functional surfaces are normally machined. It is used for large stainless near-net-shape parts, for adding features to existing components, and for repairing or cladding worn parts in corrosive service. Every value on this page is read from Meltio's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
