EOS StainlessSteel 316L-4441 is one maker's grade of low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel made by laser powder bed fusion, here in the as-built condition. Rapid melt-pool solidification leaves a fine cellular substructure within columnar grains aligned with the build direction. This gives higher yield strength but lower ductility than annealed wrought 316L, with some anisotropy between build directions. As-built parts carry residual stress, a rough surface and support structures, and usually need stress relief, removal from the build plate, and machining or polishing. Typical uses are corrosion-resistant fluid-handling parts, manifolds, and complex process and marine hardware. Every value on this page is read from EOS's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
