EOS StainlessSteel 316L-4404 is a 316L austenitic stainless steel powder grade, corresponding to DIN 1.4404, for laser powder bed fusion. Rapid solidification gives near-full density and a fine cellular austenitic structure with grains elongated along the build direction. As a result, parts are stronger but less ductile than annealed wrought 316L and differ somewhat between build directions. Parts are built on supports and carry residual stress, often relieved by heat treatment before removal from the plate, and their rough surface is machined or polished where needed. Typical uses are manifolds, valve bodies, chemical and marine components, and tooling with complex internal channels. Every value on this page is read from EOS's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
