Colibrium Additive Stainless Steel 316L is that maker's grade of low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel for laser powder bed fusion, here in the stress-relieved condition. Rapid melt-pool solidification gives a fine cellular substructure in grains elongated along the build direction, so properties vary somewhat with orientation. Parts are near fully dense but have a rough as-built surface and need supports on overhangs. Stress relief, usually done on the build plate, lowers residual stress and distortion while largely keeping the fine as-built structure. Typical parts are corrosion-resistant manifolds, fluid-handling components, heat exchangers and brackets. Every value on this page is read from Colibrium Additive's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
