Colibrium Additive Stainless Steel 316L is the maker's grade of low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel for laser powder bed fusion, here in the as-built condition. Rapid solidification of the melt pool gives a fine cellular sub-grain structure within columnar grains along the build direction, which makes it stronger than annealed wrought 316L but less ductile, with properties that differ between build directions. Parts are nearly fully dense but carry residual stress, are built on supports, and have a rough surface that is often machined or polished. They are used for corrosion-resistant fluid-handling parts, manifolds, brackets and tooling. Every value on this page is read from Colibrium Additive's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
