LaserForm 316L (A) is the 3D Systems grade of low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel for laser powder bed fusion, which builds near-fully dense parts from it. Rapid solidification gives a fine cellular austenitic structure with grains elongated along the build direction, so strength exceeds that of annealed wrought 316L and varies somewhat with build orientation. Parts need supports on overhangs and are usually stress relieved, cut from the build plate and machined or polished where the rough as-built surface matters. Printed parts serve as corrosion-resistant manifolds, valve bodies, heat exchangers and complex industrial components. Every value on this page is read from 3D Systems' own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
