LaserForm 316L (A) in the stress-relieved condition is 3D Systems' grade of low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel made by laser powder bed fusion. As printed, rapid solidification produces a fine cellular substructure within columnar grains along the build direction, near-full density with some anisotropy, rough down-facing surfaces and high residual stress, with parts built on supports. Stress relief reduces that residual stress to limit distortion when parts are removed from the build plate, while largely keeping the fine as-built microstructure. Printed parts are used for corrosion-resistant fluid-handling components, manifolds, valve bodies and brackets. Every value on this page is read from 3D Systems' own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
