3D Systems LaserForm 316L (A) is a grade of 316L austenitic stainless steel made by laser powder bed fusion, here in the annealed condition. As built, the alloy has columnar grains along the build direction with a fine cellular substructure, high residual stress and some anisotropy. Parts need supports, removal from the build plate and finishing of the rough surface. Annealing relieves the residual stress and breaks down the cellular substructure, trading some strength for ductility and more uniform properties across build directions. Typical parts are corrosion-resistant manifolds, valve and pump components, fluid fittings and brackets with complex internal geometry. Every value on this page is read from 3D Systems' own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
