17-4PH Stainless Steel (L-PBF, EOS StainlessSteel 17-4PH, heat-treated)

EOS StainlessSteel 17-4PH, heat-treated, is a maker's grade of 17-4PH precipitation-hardening stainless steel printed by laser powder bed fusion and heat-treated after the build. As printed, rapid solidification leaves a fine structure that can retain considerable austenite, along with residual stress, support structures and a rough surface. Solution treatment and ageing convert the structure to martensite strengthened by copper-rich precipitates, raising strength and hardness and relieving residual stress. Functional surfaces are still usually machined or blasted. Printed parts serve as tooling inserts, pump and valve components and structural brackets that need high strength with moderate corrosion resistance.
