17-4PH Stainless Steel (L-PBF, EOS StainlessSteel 17-4PH, as-built)

EOS StainlessSteel 17-4PH as-built is the maker's 17-4PH precipitation-hardening stainless steel grade fused by laser powder bed fusion, with no heat treatment after the build. Rapid solidification leaves fine cellular grains elongated along the build direction, martensite with retained austenite, and copper still in solution, so it lacks the strength of the aged tempers. Parts carry residual stress, need supports and have a rough layered surface. They are therefore usually stress relieved, then solution treated and aged, and machined on functional faces. Finished parts serve as tooling inserts, pump and valve components, and brackets that need strength with corrosion resistance.
