BASF Forward AM Ultrafuse 17-4 PH, heat-treated, is 17-4PH stainless steel printed by material extrusion from a metal-filled polymer filament, then debound, sintered and given a precipitation-hardening heat treatment. The printed green part is oversized to allow for shrinkage during sintering. The sintered metal keeps some residual porosity and the layered surface texture of extrusion, so features needing tight tolerances are usually machined. The ageing treatment after sintering hardens the martensitic matrix by copper-rich precipitation, raising strength and hardness over the as-sintered state. Parts are used for tooling, jigs, fixtures, functional prototypes and low-volume metal components. Every value on this page is read from BASF Forward AM's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
