13Cr-8Ni Austenitic Stainless (var. 2)
metal13Cr-8Ni is a precipitation-hardened austenitic stainless steel combining 13% chromium for corrosion resistance with 8% nickel and aluminum alloying for age-hardening response, creating a martensitic-austenitic hybrid microstructure. This variant finds application in aerospace and defense components requiring high strength combined with corrosion resistance at moderate temperatures, such as fasteners, landing gear, and structural brackets where traditional austenitic stainless steels would be too soft or where martensitic stainless steels lack sufficient toughness. The elevated carbon (0.138%) and aluminum content, along with molybdenum additions, enable significant strengthening through precipitation hardening while the nickel-chromium balance maintains reasonable ductility and resistance to chloride attack—making it a middle-ground alternative to softer 300-series austenitic grades or more brittle hardened martensitic steels in demanding environments.
