YSc

YSc is a yttria-scandium ceramic compound belonging to the rare-earth oxide family, typically studied as a high-temperature structural ceramic or thermal barrier coating material. It is primarily of research and advanced engineering interest, used in applications demanding exceptional thermal stability, oxidation resistance, and high-temperature strength—particularly in aerospace and energy sectors where conventional ceramics reach their limits. The addition of scandium to yttria-based systems is notable for refining grain structure and potentially improving fracture toughness compared to standard yttria ceramics, making it a candidate material for next-generation thermal protection systems and high-performance refractory applications.
