Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Grade 23) (L-PBF, Colibrium Additive Ti6Al4V Grade 23, as-built)

Colibrium Additive Ti6Al4V Grade 23 is the maker's extra-low-interstitial Ti-6Al-4V grade for laser powder bed fusion, here in the as-built condition. Rapid cooling of the melt pool gives fine acicular martensite within columnar prior-beta grains elongated along the build direction, so as-built parts are strong but of limited ductility and somewhat anisotropic. They also carry high residual stress, rough downskin surfaces and supports, and are normally stress relieved on the build plate, often followed by hot isostatic pressing and machining. Printed parts are used for aerospace components and for medical parts such as lattice-structured orthopedic implants.
