3D Systems LaserForm Ti Gr23 (A) is a Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Grade 23) grade printed by laser powder bed fusion, here stress-relieved. As built, it forms columnar prior-beta grains along the build direction filled with fine alpha-prime martensite, giving high strength, low ductility, anisotropy and high residual stress. Stress relief, done before removal from the build plate, lowers residual stress and distortion and partly decomposes the martensite but leaves the columnar grains and any porosity. Parts still need support removal and machining or finishing, and hot isostatic pressing is often added for fatigue loading. Uses include orthopedic and dental implant components, lattice structures and aerospace brackets.
