Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Grade 23, EB-PBF)

Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Grade 23) printed by electron beam powder bed fusion is the extra-low-interstitial titanium alloy, melted from powder layer by layer in a vacuum. The powder bed is held hot throughout the build, so parts are largely stress-relieved as printed and residual stress is low compared with laser-based processes. The microstructure is typically fine alpha-beta lamellar, with prior-beta grains often growing columnar along the build direction. Surfaces are rough and the sintered powder cake must be removed; critical surfaces are machined, and hot isostatic pressing can close residual porosity. Typical parts are orthopedic implants, including lattice-structured ones, and lightweight aerospace brackets and structural components.
