Scandium carbide (ScC) is a refractory ceramic compound belonging to the transition metal carbide family, known for high hardness and thermal stability at elevated temperatures. It is primarily investigated in advanced materials research for high-temperature structural applications, cutting tools, and wear-resistant coatings, where its combination of hardness and chemical inertness offers potential advantages over conventional ceramics. Compared to more established carbides like tungsten carbide or titanium carbide, ScC remains relatively experimental but attracts interest for specialized aerospace and extreme-environment applications due to its unique property profile.

RoHS, REACH, and Prop 65 statuses are validated against official substance lists (ECHA SVHC Candidate List, OEHHA Prop 65, RoHS Annex II). Other regulations are estimated from composition and material classification. All screening is a starting point for due diligence — always verify with your supplier before making compliance decisions.
