UltiMaker PVA is a water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol filament printed by fused deposition modeling as a support material, not as a material for finished parts. It is extruded from a second nozzle alongside a build material such as PLA and removed after printing by soaking the part in water, which leaves cleaner surfaces than breakaway supports. The filament is strongly hygroscopic and must be kept dry, since absorbed moisture causes stringing, bubbling and poor adhesion to the build material. It is used to support complex overhangs, enclosed cavities, internal channels and print-in-place assemblies from which conventional supports could not be removed. Every value on this page is read from UltiMaker's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
