Plutonium sulfide (PuS) is a ceramic compound belonging to the actinide chalcogenide family, characterized by ionic bonding between plutonium cations and sulfide anions in a rock-salt crystal structure. This material is primarily investigated in nuclear fuel research and materials science laboratories rather than in widespread commercial production, with applications focused on advanced nuclear systems, radioisotope thermoelectric generators (RTGs), and fundamental studies of actinide chemistry. PuS is notable for its high density and moderate elastic stiffness, making it of theoretical interest for compact heat sources in space exploration and remote power systems, though its radioactive nature, scarcity, and handling requirements limit practical deployment compared to more conventional ceramic fuels like uranium oxide.

Regulatory Screening

Environmental

RoHS, REACH, and Prop 65 statuses are validated against official substance lists (ECHA SVHC Candidate List, OEHHA Prop 65, RoHS Annex II). Other regulations are estimated from composition and material classification. All screening is a starting point for due diligence — always verify with your supplier before making compliance decisions.
