NiGaO2N is an experimental oxynitride ceramic compound combining nickel, gallium, oxygen, and nitrogen into a single-phase material. This class of mixed-anion ceramics is being investigated for photocatalytic and semiconductor applications where the blended anionic framework can modify electronic band structure and optical absorption compared to conventional oxides or nitrides. While not yet widely commercialized, nickel-gallium oxynitrides represent an emerging research direction in heterogeneous catalysis, photocatalytic water splitting, and potentially visible-light-driven environmental remediation systems.
