NaYSe is a ternary ceramic compound composed of sodium, yttrium, and selenium, belonging to the family of rare-earth chalcogenide ceramics. This material exists primarily in research and development contexts, where it is investigated for its potential in infrared optics, scintillation detection, and solid-state electronics due to the optical and electronic properties imparted by yttrium and the chalcogenide network. Compared to more established rare-earth oxides and fluorides, selenide-based ceramics offer broader infrared transmission windows and unique luminescent characteristics, making them candidates for specialized photonic and radiation detection applications where conventional ceramics fall short.
