MgIr3 is an intermetallic ceramic compound combining magnesium and iridium, belonging to the family of high-density metallic ceramics with potential for extreme-environment applications. This material remains largely in the research phase, with interest driven by its exceptionally high density and the inherent hardness and thermal stability of iridium-based intermetallics; it is being investigated for applications requiring extreme wear resistance or thermal management in demanding aerospace and energy sectors, where conventional ceramics or alloys fall short.
