IM-6 (Hercules) carbon fibre (12,000-filament tow) in an APC-2 (Fiberite) PEEK matrix, supplied as tape. Carbon/PEEK is a thermoplastic composite: it can be melted and re-formed, which permits welding, rapid stamping and reprocessing that a thermoset cannot. It absorbs almost no moisture, resists solvents, and has markedly better damage tolerance and interlaminar toughness than epoxy systems — at higher processing temperature and cost. Typical uses are clips, brackets and leading edges where impact and fluid exposure govern. The handbook characterises it from -67 °F to 250 °F, consistent with moderately elevated service. MatWorld carries 16 tensile, compressive and shear curves for this system, digitised from MIL-HDBK-17-2F Volume 2 (US Government work, public domain).
