Renishaw SS 316L-0407 is a low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel powder grade for laser powder bed fusion. Printed parts are near fully dense, with a fine cellular solidification structure within columnar grains aligned to the build direction. This gives higher yield strength than annealed wrought 316L but lower ductility and some anisotropy. As-built parts carry residual stress and rough surfaces and need supports on overhangs, so stress relief, support removal and machining or polishing of functional surfaces are usual. It is used for manifolds, valve and fluid-handling parts, heat exchangers and tooling with internal channels in corrosive service. Every value on this page is read from Renishaw's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
