BASF Forward AM Ultrafuse 316L is a filament of 316L stainless steel powder in a polymer binder, printed by fused deposition modeling into a green part that becomes solid metal only after debinding and sintering. The binder is removed catalytically, and sintering then densifies the part with substantial shrinkage that the design must compensate, leaving an austenitic structure with some residual porosity. Parts show layer lines and somewhat lower properties across layers than along them, and critical surfaces usually need machining. The grade is used for prototypes, tooling, jigs, fixtures and low-volume corrosion-resistant parts. Every value on this page is read from BASF Forward AM's own material data sheet — quoted, cited and dated — and is the maker's statement about printed material, not a measurement by MatWorld; none has yet been reviewed by a person.
